Drone Attack on Sudanese Hospital Claims 30 Lives

A drone strike on the Saudi Hospital in El-Fasher, Sudan’s Darfur region, resulted in the deaths of 30 individuals and left many others injured, VOA reported citing a medical source. The attack, which occurred on Friday evening, destroyed the building dedicated to emergency cases. The source, who requested anonymity due to safety concerns, noted that the same facility had previously been targeted by a drone operated by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Since April 2023, conflict has escalated between the Sudanese army and the RSF, leading to widespread devastation in Darfur. El-Fasher has been besieged since May but remains contested.

Medical charity Doctors Without Borders highlighted that the Saudi Hospital is one of the few remaining facilities capable of surgical procedures, as up to 80% of healthcare services across Sudan have ceased operations. The ongoing war has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced over 12 million people, with famine conditions worsening in the region.
