UN Secretary-General calls for global investment in epidemic preparedness

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stressed the importance of global investment in epidemic preparedness efforts, as well as in building solidarity to give every country a chance to tackle infectious diseases from their onset.
In his message to the international community on the occasion of the International Day for Epidemic Preparedness, Guterres explained that the Covid-19 pandemic demonstrated the speed with which any infectious disease can invade the entire world, pushing health systems to the brink of collapse, and turning the daily life of all mankind upside down. Infectious diseases remain a clear and present danger for every country.
Guterres stressed the need for the world to prepare for the next crisis, by increasing investments in improving monitoring, early detection and rapid response plans in every country, especially the most vulnerable countries.
