More than 12,500 Palestinian women have been killed in the Gaza Strip and 28 in the occupied West Bank since October 2023, according to a joint statement by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, which warned of worsening humanitarian, health and economic conditions for Palestinian women.

The figures were released ahead of Palestinian Women’s National Day, observed on October 26 under the slogan “Palestinian Women: Unbroken Resilience and Unconquered Will.” More than 9,000 of the women killed in Gaza were mothers, while 42 were journalists. Women also accounted for approximately 14% of the 175,416 Palestinians reported injured by October 12.

The statement highlighted the conflict’s wider social impact, including 28,560 women who lost their husbands. The share of households headed by women rose from 12% before the war to approximately 18% by October 2025. It also warned that around 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza face growing risks amid deteriorating medical services, with more than 12,000 miscarriages reportedly recorded since October 2023.

Economic conditions have also sharply deteriorated, with female unemployment reaching 92% in Gaza during the second quarter of 2026, compared with 31% in the occupied West Bank. By the end of 2025, women numbered approximately 2.75 million, representing 49% of the Palestinian population.
