Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed estimates regarding the percentage of Muslims in Russia, emphasizing that citizens who follow Islam make up an important segment of Russian society.

Speaking during the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin addressed Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and said that the proportion of Russian citizens who believe in Islam ranges between 10 and 15 percent, adding that the figure is likely closer to 15 percent of the country’s total population.

Muslims are considered one of Russia’s largest religious communities. They are concentrated in several republics and regions, most notably Tatarstan, Chechnya, Dagestan, and Bashkortostan, in addition to large Muslim communities in major cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum opened last Wednesday with broad participation from officials, experts, and decision-makers from various countries. The forum is scheduled to continue until Saturday, with discussions focusing on the global economy, investment, energy, and international cooperation.
