Russia said Monday that the number of fatalities from last week’s explosion at a factory in the Ryazan region has climbed to 20, while more than 130 others were injured, Anadolu Agency reported.

The regional crisis headquarters said 31 of the injured remain hospitalized in Ryazan and Moscow, while 103 are receiving outpatient care. Search and rescue efforts are still underway at the site.

The blast occurred Friday in the village of Lesnoy at a workshop identified by state media as part of the Elastik plant, which produces gunpowder. Initial figures released by Governor Pavel Malkov reported five deaths and over 100 injuries, many caused by shattered glass. He later declared Monday a day of mourning in the region.

Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry confirmed the explosion and fire, while investigators have opened a criminal case into possible violations of industrial safety regulations.
