Volcano Erupts in Russia’s Far East Following Powerful Earthquake
……………….
Russia’s Klyuchevskoy volcano, the tallest active volcano in Europe and Asia, erupted on July 30, 2025, shortly after a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, according to the Russian Geophysical Survey. The Smithsonian Institution’s Global Volcanism Program reports at least 18 eruptions of Klyuchevskoy since 2000.
Lava was seen flowing down the western slope, accompanied by explosions and a visible glow. A tsunami warning, triggered by the quake, was lifted 11 hours later. No major damage or casualties were reported, as the area is remote and sparsely populated.
