Continuous Hussaini Mourning Ceremonies in New Zealand’s Waikato Region

In the Waikato region of New Zealand, followers of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) from the Shiite communities and local citizens continue to commemorate the mourning of Imam al-Hussein (peace be upon him) in preparation for the sacred Arbaeen.

The official page of the Shiite community in this water-rich, green region documented images of the mourning assemblies held in honor of the martyrdom of Sayyed al-Shuhada (peace be upon him).

According to reports from the mourning ceremonies, organizers emphasized the “necessity of magnifying the mourning for Aba Abdillah (peace be upon him) and spreading his fluttering banner throughout the world.”

They added that “the Waikato region is no longer remote for Shiite believers; they are keen to travel from neighboring areas to participate in the mourning activities held here.”

Organizers noted that “the presence of Shiites and the revival of sacred rituals has created a unique and exceptional phenomenon in this region, which has never before witnessed such a large presence of followers of the Pure Ma’sumeen.” They pointed out that “these sacred activities are respected and appreciated by the regional government and non-Muslim citizens.”

Furthermore, they explained that “the number of Shiite believers is increasing day by day in this region, drawn by the extensive mourning activities held during the months of Muharram and Safar, as well as the religious occasions of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) throughout the year.”
