Debate in Norway After Left-Wing Party Proposes Funding to Support Muslim Women
—————————————–
A political debate has emerged in Norway following a proposal by the Socialist Left Party (SV) to allocate two million Norwegian kroner to a project aimed at supporting Muslim women and preventing hate-driven violence.

The initiative, reported by ABNA and other regional outlets, would place the funds under the supervision of the Islamic Council of Norway (IRN), which plans to use them for educational, cultural, and community-based programs designed to counter discrimination and strengthen social inclusion.

According to these reports, SV argues that the measure responds to increasing concerns about hate crimes targeting Muslim women, including recent high-profile incidents that have intensified public scrutiny of racism and gender-based violence. Party representatives say the funding is intended to improve safety, promote coexistence, and expand community outreach.

The proposal has drawn criticism from conservative politicians, particularly from the Progress Party (FrP), who question whether state resources should be directed to a religiously affiliated organization. Supporters, however, contend that minority-led initiatives are essential for addressing documented inequalities and building trust between communities.

While the proposal has sparked significant discussion, official confirmation of its adoption has not yet been announced.
