Eastern Europe continues to endure intense heat and widespread wildfires amid a persistent heatwave, while parts of Western Europe are experiencing relief from the soaring temperatures, Anadolu Agency reported.
Countries including Greece, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Albania, and North Macedonia are battling high temperatures and numerous wildfires. North Macedonia’s Crisis Management Center reported 37 wildfires on Wednesday, with five still active. Albania experienced 22 fires in the past day, with 11 ongoing, according to public broadcaster RTSh. Croatia has also faced recent fires, with temperatures expected to remain elevated through Friday, as noted by broadcaster HRT.
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Federal Meteorological Institute issued orange and yellow alerts, forecasting temperatures near 40°C (104°F). Serbia is preparing for similar highs on Friday and Saturday, according to broadcaster RTS.
Northern Europe is not exempt, with Finland anticipating tropical nights above 20°C (68°F) on Thursday and Friday, per the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI). Sweden’s Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) issued an orange alert as temperatures are expected to surpass 30°C (86°F).
