EU Sets 2027 Deadline to End All Russian Fossil Fuel Imports

The European Union will fully phase out Russian fossil fuel imports by 2027, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced Wednesday, Anadolu Agency reported. The move aims to cut funding for Russia’s war in Ukraine and strengthen EU energy security.
The EU has slashed Russian oil imports by 90% and reduced gas dependency from 45% to 13% since 2022. Von der Leyen credited global partners like the US and Norway for aiding the transition.
The European Commission president also extended gratitude to global partners, including the US, Norway, Japan, and South Korea, for helping the bloc manage the energy crisis that followed the Russia-Ukraine war.
