A gathering of mosque imams from New South Wales, Australia, was held to discuss the challenges facing the Muslim community.

The event was organized by the New South Wales Council of Imams in cooperation with the Australian National Imams Council. It brought together more than 60 imams, along with a number of religious and social leaders.

Participants stressed the importance of overcoming internal divisions and prioritizing the interests of the Muslim community. They agreed that strengthening unity among Islamic institutions and protecting the identity of Muslim youth are essential for building a coherent and sustainable future.

The meeting was not only a social gathering marking Eid al-Adha, but also a platform for dialogue and the exchange of experiences. Discussions focused on the main challenges facing Muslims in Australia, ways to improve institutional work, and the need for a unified position to strengthen Muslims’ positive presence in Australian society.

With Australia’s Muslim population exceeding 800,000 and representing diverse backgrounds, imams’ councils play a central role in promoting religious identity and representing Muslim communities. Participants agreed on the need to move beyond differences and view the Muslim community as one united body working for the common good.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of young people. Participants said the future of the community depends on the ability of religious institutions to provide proper guidance and strengthen the sense of belonging among new generations. They noted that imams have a crucial responsibility to guide youth with wisdom and compassion.
