Mob Violence Targets Foreign Medical Students in Kyrgyzstan

Five Pakistani medical students were injured in a mob attack on foreign students in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek, Arab News reported today.

The violence appears to have been sparked by the online sharing of videos depicting a brawl between Kyrgyz students and Egyptian medical students on May 13. Since then, several hostels housing students from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, as well as private residences of international students, have been targeted in attacks.

While details are still emerging, reports indicate that some Pakistani students have sustained minor injuries. Authorities are investigating the incident and working to ensure the safety of foreign students in the country.
