Muslims Face 45% of Religious Hate Crimes in England and Wales Amid 20% Rise

Muslims were the target of 45% of all religious hate crimes recorded in England and Wales, marking a concerning 20% increase from the previous year.
According to Shia Waves Persian, the spike, which saw 4,478 reported crimes against Muslims, was partly attributed to the murders and subsequent unrest in Southport in 2024. Far-right groups reportedly exploited these events by spreading misinformation, fueling anti-Muslim sentiment.
Overall, police recorded 7,164 religious hate crimes; crimes against Jewish people accounted for 29% of the total. A Muslim government minister announced increased police patrols and £50 million for community protection. However, Muslim charities criticize the figures, warning of significant under-reporting and data omissions from certain police forces.
