Since January, more than 2 million individuals who were in the United States illegally have left the country, following increased enforcement efforts under President Donald Trump, Anadolu Agency reported citing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced.

The figure includes about 1.6 million voluntary self-deportations and over 400,000 formal deportations, all in less than 250 days of the Trump administration’s renewed crackdown.

DHS says enforcement has intensified, with efforts focused on removing unauthorized immigrants with criminal records and sending a strong message that “self-deportation” is an option.

Additionally, the agency reports that border crossings from Central America have dropped sharply—as many migrants reportedly abandoned plans to enter the U.S. under the current policies.
