EU Urges Calm as Youth-Led Protests Sweep Morocco
——————————–
The European Union has called for restraint and dialogue amid ongoing youth-led protests in Morocco demanding political reform and improved social services, according to Arab News.

EU foreign affairs spokesman Anouar El Anouni acknowledged the “importance of youth participation in public life” but urged all sides to maintain calm and pursue peaceful engagement. The demonstrations, now in their sixth consecutive day, have spread across Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, and Agadir, as thousands of young people rally for government accountability and better access to healthcare and education.

The movement, organized largely online under the banner GenZ 212, has demanded the resignation of the government, the release of detained protesters, and the protection of constitutional rights. Participants insist their campaign is peaceful and leaderless, distancing themselves from isolated acts of vandalism.

In Rabat, demonstrators marched with Moroccan flags and chanted slogans such as “health and not just stadiums.” No major violence was reported. Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, addressing the unrest for the first time, said the government is open to engaging with protesters and addressing their grievances.
