Arabic calligraphy exhibition in Morocco honors Quranic heritage

An exhibition in northwestern Morocco tracked the historical journey of writing the Quran, displaying items dating back to the Andaluzian and Ottoman periods, as well as the 8th century, Africanews reported.

Held in Safi during the holy month of Ramadan, it displayed the smallest copy of Quran, measuring 20mm x 17mm x 12mm, covered in gold water and written with gum Arabic, only readable with a microscope, the source mentioned.

According to the article, the exhibition also featured an astronomical painting on deer skin depicting Mecca as the heart of the globe.

In the course of the event, the president of the Moroccan Club for Manuscripts, Coins and Stamps expressed concern over the deterioration of calligraphy, which could endanger handwritten copies of the Quran.
