The first Islamic conference of leaders of Islamic groups and sects was held in Sunyani, Ghana, with the attendance of a large number of imams and Islamic leaders.
The conference aimed to agree on a unified framework for the election of a unified Islamic leadership for Muslims in Ghana.
In his speech at the closing ceremony of the conference, Sheikh Mustafa Ibrahim, representative of the Muslim leader in Ghana, said that agreeing on a unified framework will spare them chaos when they have to elect a new leader.
Ibrahim added: “We should not wait until the leader of the Muslims dies to elect a successor, but this can be done during his lifetime, in order to avoid any problem in this context.”
The conference, which was held in the city of Sunyani, was attended by all the sixteen Islamic leaders from different parts of Ghana, a number of the Ghanaian Muslim leader’s office and a number of imams of mosques from different regions of this African country.
