Foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states convened an emergency meeting in Jeddah to adopt a unified stance in support of Somalia.

The move comes in response to the recent visit by Israel’s foreign minister to Somaliland and Israel’s recognition of the region, developments that have heightened concerns over their potential impact on regional security.

According to Middle East News, the OIC held the emergency meeting at the level of foreign ministers at its secretariat headquarters in Jeddah to address the latest developments related to Somalia and to reach a coordinated position.

Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported that the OIC General Secretariat said the meeting would focus on reaffirming steadfast support for Somalia’s security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, in line with international charters and previous resolutions adopted by the organization.

The meeting also aimed to examine the political and security implications of foreign actions affecting Somalia.

Particular attention was given to recent developments in Somaliland, where Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar became the first Israeli official to visit the region and held talks with Somaliland’s president.

According to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, Israel’s move has drawn widespread international reactions and sharp criticism, raising concerns over threats to Somalia’s political stability and security.

During the meeting, OIC foreign ministers stressed the importance of a unified Islamic position, underscoring the need to support Somalia’s state institutions and to prevent any foreign actions that could undermine the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

News sources noted that the outcomes of the meeting could form the basis of an official, coordinated Islamic stance against external interference and threats to Somalia, playing a key role in safeguarding regional security.
