US Imposes New Travel Restrictions on Nigeria and Other African States
……….
The United States has introduced new travel restrictions on Nigeria, a move that is expected to further strain diplomatic relations between the two countries, media outlets reported.
Nigeria is among 12 additional African nations now subject to tighter limits on travel to the US. Other countries affected by the new measures include Angola, Senegal, Tanzania and Zambia. The decision follows recent warnings from US President Donald Trump, who threatened Abuja with sanctions and possible military action over concerns related to the treatment of Christians in Nigeria.
The White House has accused Islamist militant groups in Nigeria of systematically targeting Christian communities, allegations that Nigerian authorities have repeatedly rejected. In a separate development, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Sierra Leone and South Sudan have been added to a list of 19 countries facing a complete travel ban.
US officials said the expanded restrictions are intended to address national security and public safety concerns. The measures have drawn criticism from human rights organizations and the United Nations, which argue that the restrictions could have serious humanitarian and diplomatic consequences.
