Africa Launches Health Security Accelerator to Boost Pandemic Readiness
————————————-
A new initiative, the Africa Health Security Accelerator (AHSA), was launched in Kigali, Rwanda, on Tuesday to significantly bolster the continent’s pandemic preparedness and response, according to Anadolu Agency (AA).

The AHSA is a continental call to action aimed at building resilient health systems, especially since Africa accounts for nearly 30% of the world’s epidemic threats. Officials noted the continent faces challenges like fragmented surveillance and a shortage of trained health workers.

The Accelerator will utilize sovereign leadership, regional collaboration, and cutting-edge technologies like AI-driven analytics and genomic surveillance. Dr. Merawi Aragaw of the Africa CDC emphasized the goal is to “create an environment for incubation of thoughts and innovations,” establishing a coordinated, self-sustaining health security ecosystem on the continent.
