Africa Embraces Green Transport with Swift Adoption of E-Bike

In Nairobi, Kenya, the rise of electric motorcycles is transforming transportation, driven by environmental awareness and technological advancements, Xinhua reported yesterday.

With 5.2 million people employed in motorcycle transport, the shift to electric models is gaining momentum, especially as fuel prices soar. Electric motorcycles cost about 10% per kilometer compared to gasoline-powered ones, making them increasingly popular.

The African motorcycle market is projected to reach $5.07 billion by 2027, with electric models leading the way. Countries like Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda are promoting electric travel to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Uganda aims to fully transition to electric mobility for public transport and motorcycle taxis by 2030 and to sell only electric vehicles by 2040, targeting a 25% reduction in transport-related emissions.
