The UN Secretary-General’s spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric on Wednesday night said that Gutress had expressed concern over the recent clashes between Baku and Yerevan in a telephone call with Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan, calling both sides to end these conflicts and return to the negotiation table.
Following the recent tensions between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran called on both sides to exercise restraint and maintain peace, reiterating on its firm policy/stance that there is no military solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Clashes between Armenian and Azerbaijani troops in the Tovuz border region of Nagorno-Karabakh, which began on Sunday (July 12th), continue, leaving dozens dead and wounded on both sides.
The conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region began in 1988 and turned into a military conflict in 1991, as a result of which the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven neighboring cities came under the control of Armenian forces.
