Muslim corona victims wait in France’s morgues after running out of designated places

French Muslims are running out of places designated for burying their dead in the country’s graves, and the impossibility of transporting the bodies to their countries of origin.

French Muslims are running out of places designated for burying their dead in the country’s graves, and the impossibility of transporting the bodies to their countries of origin.

“In normal cases, Muslims choose to bury their dead here or abroad, but that is not possible with the current outbreak of corona,” said Abdul Samad Akrash, head of an Islamic association.

The head of the French Council for Islamic Religion, Mohammed al-Musawi, said that “about 80% of the deceased were buried in their normal countries,” noting that only 600 of the 35,000 French cemeteries include spaces allocated for Muslims, but at the same time they did not allow Burying towards the qiblah, except for a short period.

Akrash pointed to the depletion of places designated for burial of Muslims in French cemeteries, stressing the need to solve this problem quickly.

Hundreds of bodies are now being kept either in refrigerators or in morgues.

Previously, the French Islamic Council called on President Emmanuel Macron to intervene to solve this problem.

According to the data of the council, the French authorities have allocated about a hundred graves to Muslims in 300 cemeteries throughout the country.
