The representative of the World Health Organization in Iraq, Adham Ismail, issued reassuring signals regarding the health measures in the country, considering that the current figures suggest high performance and good control over the spread of the pandemic, revealing that he was under pressure in the file of closing the Iraqi borders.
Ismail said in a statement to the pilgrims of Imam al-Kadhum, peace be upon him, “I attend most of the meetings, there was a lot of pressure, closing the Iraqi border was not an easy decision, I was subjected to these political pressures, as well as the Iraqi Minister of Health, but the decision was made.”
He added, “If you want to evaluate the performance of the ministry, then I am talking about an evaluation of a very good to excellent level, the performance is not less than 9 out of ten, for a country bordering Iran with 1400 km, and a lot of ports, the number is almost miraculous and I receive calls from embassies who want to verify this number.”
He continued, “We had to bring in international experts from the World Health Organization from Geneva and Cairo last week to review the figures, and they believed that there was a mistake in the numbers, but they came out with a smile on their faces.”
He concluded, “I send a message to those who have gone and visited the holy shrines and have received the blessing of the Ahlulbayt. We now want you to give us blessings, by staying in homes so that we can undermine the outbreak.”
On Saturday, the Minister of Health and Environment Jaafar Sadiq Allawi called on all participants in the pilgrimage of Imam al-Kadhum, peace be upon him, to voluntarily quarantine them in their homes for a period of two weeks to ensure that there are no infections among them with the coronavirus.
