United Nations: Rohingya Muslims killed in Myanmar, with internet disconnected

Experts of the United Nations Human Rights Council said that the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar are being subjected to killings and displacement in areas currently cut off from the Internet.

Experts of the United Nations Human Rights Council said that the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar are being subjected to killings and displacement in areas currently cut off from the Internet.

A statement issued by the United Nations Office for Human Rights in Geneva said that “there are civilians, including children, who still have to bear the main burden of this escalating conflict, which is especially alarming for them due to the escalation of violence in areas where the Internet has been cut off.”

The government of the Prime Minister of Myanmar cut off the Internet in the region of Rakhine (Arakan) early this month, and Tilnor Internet services attributed the government’s decision at the time to requirements related to security and public interest.

It is noteworthy that the Internet has been cut off for many months in some areas of Rakhine, which borders Bangladesh.

“Since February 4, experts have been receiving credible reports of daily battles and the use of helicopters and naval vessels,” the UN office added.

According to these reports, seven civilians were killed and up to 50 others were injured, and these reports indicate the displacement of up to 1,100 people during the past ten days.
