The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs announced that about 6,200 people have been displaced in Hodeidah province, western Yemen, since Friday.
“On November 12, the forces allied with the Yemeni government evacuated their positions around the city of Hodeidah,” the office said in a statement.
He explained that “these forces withdrew from the Al-Durayhimi and Beit Al-Faqih areas, and most of the areas under their control in the Al-Tuhayta district, and redeployed in the city of Al-Khoukha, about 90 km south of Al-Hodeidah.”
He continued, “Following these developments, about 700 families (about 4,900 people) were displaced to the city of Al-Khoukha, while another 184 families (about 1,300 people) were displaced south to the Mocha area (south of Hodeidah).”
He stated that “a new site for the displaced, consisting of 300 tents, has been established to receive the newly displaced families in Al-Khokha district.”
Yemen has been witnessing a war for nearly 7 years, which has killed more than 233,000 people, and 80 percent of the population, numbering about 30 million, has become dependent on support and aid, in the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, according to the United Nations.
