The Ministry of Islamic Affairs in Mauritania confiscated the Imam Ali Mosque in the province of Dar al-Naim in the northern state of Nouakchott and told the Imam of the mosque in the compound of his removal from the imam and the teaching of another Imam to replace him.

A delegation from the ministry visited the compound during the weekend, to inspect it carefully, before the imam was informed of his impeachment and was given a week to leave his residence inside the compound.

The compound was established several years ago in Dar al-Naim district in Nouakchott, with the beginning of the announcement of some Mauritanians of their Shia beliefs, and the organization of ritualistic ceremonies, which is magnified by the Shias of Ahlulbait, peace be upon them, especially in the days of Ashura and the auspicious birth anniversary.

The Mauritanian authorities did not elaborate on the reasons behind the closure of the mosque and the school of the Imam Ali, peace be upon him, while the country is witnessing a remarkable increase in the number of followers of the doctrine of Shiism.
