One person was killed and at least 29 were wounded in Thailand after two bombs exploded in Pattani, a Muslim-dominated southernmost province, which is also the scene of an ongoing separatist conflict.

The two explosive devices were placed in the parking lot behind a hotel in an area surrounded with shops and residences, and were detonated 20 minutes apart, according to state news agency MCOT.

The ongoing separatist conflict has claimed more than 6,500 lives since January 2004 in Thailand’s southernmost provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.

The armed attacks, assassinations and bomb attacks occur almost every day in this region despite the deployment of some 40,000 security forces and the implemented state of emergency.
