On Thursday morning, leaders of the Muslim worship space strolled over soggy carpets, past scorched walls and under caved ceilings, surveying what remained after a Monday afternoon fire.

The fire at the Islamic Education Center off George Road was the second of two blazes in as many days which damaged Hillsborough County’s only Shia mosques.

Jabbar Al-Mashahdani, a board member of the Islamic Education Center, said: “It has an effect on our heart. All our community, they love this place.”

The first happened Sunday evening at the Madinatul Ilm, at Garden Lane, a quiet residential road off Interstate 4.

Local authorities and Investigators pegged the incident as an electrical fire; however, the Leaders of that mosque could not be reached for comment.
