the most important events are the tragedies of Ashura, martyrdom of Imam Hussain
Each year Shiites commemorate many historic events, of the most important events are the tragedies of Ashura, martyrdom of Imam Hussain, peace be upon him, and the martyrdom of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra, peace be upon her. Indeed, it is our duty to put forth effort in keeping the memory of these events alive.
Perhaps those not familiar with Shiite beliefs may question the purpose of commemorating the past events, reviving these sad events will only cause further disunity within Muslim communities, but in fact it is an obligation by the infallibles, peace be upon them, through narrations and traditions by the founder of Shiism Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, who said “The true followers enjoy and celebrate our happiness and grieve to our sorrow.”
Mourning ceremonies are being held all over the world to renew promises of loyalty to Ahlulbait, peace be upon them.
