Geert Wilders has once again stirred tensions by distributing fake pepper sprays in a market
Far-right Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders has once again stirred tensions by distributing fake pepper sprays in a market, claiming that women must defend themselves against Muslim men.
The politician, who leads the Freedom Party, or the PVV, visited the market in the town of Spijkenisse to push his blunt message against Islam and Muslims. He handed out the sprays, which contained red paint despite the fact that they are illegal in the Netherlands.
The lawmaker, whose party only has 12 seats in the 150-seat Dutch lower house, is known for his anti-immigrant, anti-Islam rhetoric and has recently seen his popularity soar, just more than a year before the parliamentary elections.
