Shia scholars and religious authorities issued messages of condemnation on the occasion of the martyrdom of the anti-Saudi activist and cleric, Ayatollah Sheikh NimrBaqir al-Nimr.
They also postponed delivering lessons of the advanced-level jurisprudence. Meanwhile, teachers and students of Karbala Seminary School staged a protest to condemn the heinous crime. In Iran, Hawza students participated in mass rallies held in the holy cities of Qom and Mashhad to denounce the execution. Protests were also held in various cities in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain and India calling on closing Saudi embassies and consulates in their countries. Brother of Sheikh al-Nimr called for peaceful reaction over the execution, saying that Saudi authorities didn’t hand over Sheikh Nimr’s corpse and buried him at an unknown place.
