Africa Set to Overtake Asia in Hunger by 2030, UN Warns
A recent UN report predicts that by 2030, Africa will surpass Asia in the number of people facing hunger, the Guardian reported yesterday.
Currently, 20.4% of Africa’s population is undernourished, while Asia accounts for over half of the world’s hungry, with 384.5 million people affected compared to 298.4 million in Africa.
The report highlights alarming trends driven by population growth, climate change, and conflict, projecting nearly 600 million chronically undernourished individuals globally by 2030, with over half in Africa.
Experts emphasize the need for urgent action, as rural communities struggle to feed themselves despite being food producers. The document, released by multiple UN agencies, calls for building climate-resilient food systems and enhancing social protections to combat this escalating crisis.
