Week to Commemorate Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam al-Kadhim Begins as Second Largest Mourning Procession in Iraq Moves Towards Kadhimayn

The 20th to the 26th of Rajab marks the week commemorating the martyrdom of Imam al-Kadhim (peace be upon him). The grand procession of Kadhimayn, the second largest after the Arbaeen pilgrimage, is nearing its peak.

A multitude of pilgrims, mourners, and lovers of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) from around the world are making their way to the city of Kadhimayn to honor the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him), both on foot and by vehicle.

It has been noted that since the 20th of Rajab, vast caravans of pilgrims have been traveling on foot from various regions in southern Iraq towards Baghdad to commemorate the tragic martyrdom of Imam Musa ibn Ja’far, peace be upon them both, honoring the blessed visitation of Rajab.

The movement of these caravans, which are walking from the provinces of Kut, Suq al-Shuyukh, Salman Pak, and Maysan towards the holy city of Kadhimayn to reach the sanctified shrine of Imam al-Kadhim and Imam al-Jawad (peace be upon them), typically takes about five weeks.

A massive number of pilgrims and followers of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them), under the banners of loyalty and support, have set out towards the capital of Iraq, Baghdad, to commemorate the martyrdom of the seventh Imam of the Ahlul Bayt.

Processions and movements from Najaf, Karbala, Samarra, and other cities in Iraq towards Kadhimayn have also commenced.

These pilgrims are walking to express their condolences and solidarity on the anniversary of the great tragedy of Imam al-Kadhim’s martyrdom, making their way to the heavenly shrine of Imam Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him).

The group includes a large number of individuals from various demographics—youth, children, the elderly, along with women and family members—who are journeying towards the sacred shrine of the oppressed and poisoned Imam.

Many blessed Hussaini tents, booths, and pavilions have been set up along the routes leading to Kadhimayn to provide necessary services to the lovers of the Ahlul Bayt, peace be upon them.

The procession commemorating the martyrdom of Imam al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) is recognized as the second largest after the Arbaeen pilgrimage, witnessing the presence of millions of devoted and loyal followers of the pure Ahlul Bayt, including families and various tribes, as well as individuals from different professions and sectors of the authentic Iraqi society.

It is worth mentioning that Shia Muslims and followers of Imam Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) around the world annually commemorate the painful anniversary of his martyrdom on the 25th of Rajab, donning mourning attire for the Imam who suffered in the dark dungeons of tyrants and endured long and arduous imprisonment by the enemies of the Ahlul Bayt.

According to Iraqi officials, it is anticipated that 13 million pilgrims will participate in this year’s ceremonies.

It should be mentioned that Imam Hussein Media Group’s live broadcasts of the pilgrims and mourners heading towards the holy city of Kadhimayn will begin on Wednesday, the 21st of Rajab.

According to the planning office of the media organization, the live broadcast of the Kadhimayn procession will continue from six affiliated channels in five major world languages until the anniversary of Imam Kadhim’s martyrdom.
