Shia Communities Expand Ramadan Worship, Aid Efforts Across Eight Countries
————————————–
Shia Muslim communities in several countries have marked the holy month of Ramadan with expanded religious observances and charitable initiatives, according to local media coverage.
In Lebanon, mosques and Hussainiyas in Beirut’s southern suburbs, the Bekaa Valley and southern towns organized nightly Qur’an recitation sessions, lectures and large public iftars. Reports by Al-Ahed News and Al-Nashra said charities and local committees distributed food baskets and financial assistance to vulnerable families amid the country’s ongoing economic crisis. Youth circles and children’s religious classes were also held throughout the month.
In Bahrain, religious centers in Manama and surrounding areas hosted daily iftar gatherings, Qur’anic competitions and sermons. Coverage by Al-Wasat noted organized campaigns to support low-income households with food packages and Ramadan donations.
In Yemen, particularly in Sana’a and Saada, congregational prayers, Qur’an study circles and communal meals were widely reported by Al-Masirah. Local groups also arranged aid distributions for families affected by years of conflict.
In Bangladesh, cities including Dhaka and Chittagong saw mosque-based iftars and volunteer-led food drives, according to The Daily Star and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
Similar Ramadan programs were documented in Kuwait, Russia—with reports from TASS and RIA Novosti—and Australia, where ABC News and SBS News highlighted mosque-based worship, Qur’anic competitions and charity initiatives.
Across the countries covered, reports emphasized that Ramadan activities combined religious devotion with social solidarity, volunteer engagement and support for disadvantaged communities.
