The International Organization for the Defense of Shia Rights has released its October 2025 report, documenting a range of human rights violations targeting Shia Muslim communities across several countries. The organization highlighted incidents of terrorism, persecution, and systematic discrimination, noting that in some cases, documentation was hindered by the lack of verifiable evidence.

In Pakistan, the report recorded direct attacks against Shia individuals in various regions, carried out by banned extremist groups, resulting in multiple casualties. In Bahrain, authorities reportedly continued to impose restrictions on Shia religious practices, including preventing congregational prayers, making arbitrary arrests, and using employment discrimination as a tool of repression.

The situation in Lebanon remained volatile as Israeli airstrikes targeted Shia-populated areas, leading to deaths and injuries and exacerbating tensions in the country’s southern regions. In Syria, the organization reported several abuses against Shia citizens, including kidnappings, killings, attacks on religious sites, and sectarian violence in multiple areas such as Damascus, Homs, Latakia, and Aleppo.

In Saudi Arabia, the report cited ongoing executions of Shia citizens and the appointment of hardline clerics accused of promoting sectarian rhetoric, reflecting what the group described as a continuation of systemic repression. Meanwhile, in Iraq, remnants of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) carried out violent assaults targeting Shia civilians, including kidnappings and executions in desert areas of Karbala province.

The organization concluded that these violations pose a persistent threat to the security and religious freedoms of Shia communities worldwide. It called for stronger international monitoring, increased human rights advocacy, and coordinated diplomatic efforts to hold perpetrators accountable and prevent further abuses.
