Academic researchers have described the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage in Holy Karbala as a powerful opportunity to deepen spiritual ties between people and the Quran, as well as with the teachings of the Prophet’s family. They cited verse 32 of Surah Al-Hajj, emphasizing the significance of honoring divine rituals as a reflection of faith.

The researchers noted that while the Ashura uprising symbolized armed resistance, the Arbaeen commemoration represents a form of cultural and intellectual struggle. Both, they argued, embody values of resilience, justice, enlightenment, and the preservation of Imam Hussein’s legacy.

They highlighted the vast scale of the pilgrimage, which attracts millions from diverse nations, describing it as a unique platform to spread Quranic culture and engage people emotionally with scripture. Proposals included organizing Quran recitations, competitions, and study programs along the pilgrimage routes to strengthen connections with the holy text.

At the same time, scholars urged that the event be used to address potential challenges such as division, misconduct, and neglect, through an emphasis on Quranic values. They stressed that the mass gathering offers an unparalleled environment to promote spiritual awareness and embed Quranic principles in the collective consciousness of participants.
