London-Based Al-Rasul Al-Azam Hussainiya Launches Ashura Mourning Ceremonies

As the Islamic month of Muharram begins, the Al-Rasul Al-Azam Hussainiya in London has launched its annual Ashura commemorations with a symbolic and moving flag-raising ceremony, marking the start of mourning for Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).

The ceremony began with the lowering of the red flag, which represents the blood and sacrifice of Imam Hussain and his righteous uprising. In its place, a black flag was raised in an atmosphere filled with solemnity and devotion, attended by a large gathering from the city’s Shia community, particularly youth and volunteers serving the Hussaini Cause.

The event featured Quran recitations, traditional mourning chants, and the rhythmic sound of drums, creating a scene of deep grief and solidarity with the Prophet’s family (peace be upon them). The Hussainiya, one of Europe’s prominent centers connected to the Shia religious leadership, will continue to host mourning gatherings throughout the sacred month.
