Syrian Observatory Reports 45 Mass Graves Found Since Assad’s Fall, Urges International Probe
………
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the discovery of 45 mass graves across several provinces since the fall of the former regime, containing the remains of about 2,835 people, including women and children, many of whom remain unidentified. According to the Observatory, the graves were found in various regions, including Damascus, Homs, Hama, Deir Ezzor, Daraa, Aleppo, Idlib, and Rural Damascus. The largest numbers were recorded in Damascus and Homs, where hundreds of bodies were uncovered.
The group stated that these sites were not merely burial grounds but also locations of executions, torture, and mass killings, with some victims reportedly burned alive. The Observatory called for independent international investigations to identify the victims, preserve the sites, and hold those responsible accountable for systematic killings and enforced disappearances. It emphasized that the graves serve as painful reminders of Syria’s years of repression and demanded that the international community act to ensure justice for the victims.
