Syria: Two Killed and Dozens Injured in Escalation in Aleppo
………………
At least two people were killed and more than 60 others injured on Monday following a sharp escalation in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods, according to local sources. The violence erupted after the Syrian Interim Government’s forces reportedly launched attacks on the two areas, which had been under a tight blockade for several days.
Witnesses said the forces used drones and heavy weapons in the assault, while residents staged protests demanding an end to the siege. Security forces responded with live ammunition and tear gas, injuring dozens of civilians, about 25 of whom were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Clashes later broke out between government forces and local security units as tanks and armored vehicles advanced toward the neighborhoods before eventually withdrawing, leaving behind widespread destruction and tension.
In a joint statement, the People’s Initiative and the Afrin Association condemned the attacks, held the interim government responsible, and urged international actors to press for dialogue to prevent further civilian casualties.
