Syria’s official news agency, SANA, is set to relaunch on August 20 with a revamped structure and editorial vision following an overhaul initiated after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime late last year, Anadolu Agency reported quoting director general Ziad al-Mohameed.

The restructuring includes upgraded media infrastructure, a strategic shift towards digital transformation, and renewal of staff and resources. SANA will reveal its new identity under the slogan “SANA: A Turning Point” at a ceremony in Damascus attended by Syrian officials, media figures, and foreign diplomats.

Key changes involve creating a dedicated digital media department, expanding correspondent networks domestically and internationally, and opening bureaus in North America, Europe, and Asia. The agency has also modernized its equipment, redesigned its headquarters, and selected new top staff.

SANA plans to publish content in multiple languages—English, Turkish, French, Spanish, and Kurdish—with original content tailored to each audience. It has digitized its archival materials dating back to 1965, intending to monetize them through subscriptions.

Mohameed expressed ambition for SANA to become a leading Arab news agency and a strong regional competitor within five years.
