ISIS Attacks Intensify in Northern and Eastern Syria

ISIS Attacks Intensify in Northern and Eastern Syria
—————————
Cells of the extremist Sunni group ISIS carried out two coordinated attacks last night targeting Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) positions in Deir ez-Zor and Hasakah.
According to Shia Waves Persian citing local reports, militants launched an assault on the “Bajariyah” checkpoint south of Qamishli, though no casualties were recorded. In Deir ez-Zor, ISIS fighters used light and medium weapons in an attack on an SDF military post.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has warned of a resurgence in ISIS activity across northern and eastern Syria. The group, though territorially defeated, has maintained underground networks and continues to exploit instability in the region.
Observers note that the uptick in attacks highlights both the persistence of ISIS cells and the ongoing security challenges faced by the SDF and coalition partners in preventing the group’s resurgence.
