Syrian officials have met with a delegation from a UAE-based investment company to discuss the funding and execution of a new metro system for the capital, Anadolu Agency reported. The meeting, held in Damascus, included Syrian Transport Minister Yarub Badr and Damascus Governor Maher Marwan, who conferred with representatives from the UAE National Company for Investment in Projects.

The discussions focused on the technical, financial, and executive details of the project, with both sides reviewing a draft memorandum of understanding to lay the groundwork for construction. The proposed metro is considered a strategic step to upgrade Damascus’s transportation infrastructure, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and environmental pollution.

The plan for the metro’s green line would see it run for 16.5 kilometers, connecting Al-Maadamiya to Al-Qaboun. This initiative is part of a broader push to attract foreign investment into Damascus’s infrastructure.
