ISIS Kills Two SDF Fighters in Eastern Syria Attack

ISIS militants killed two Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters in a machine-gun attack on Tuesday in al-Bahra town, eastern Deir ez-Zor province, Rudaw reported. The Kurdish-led force reported that the assailants fled on motorcycles after clashes.

The SDF called this attack part of ISIS’s “broader escalation” in northern and eastern Syria, exploiting ongoing instability. The US-backed group vowed to dismantle terrorist cells to restore regional security.

ISIS has intensified operations since early 2025, with over 50 attacks documented in SDF-held areas by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The resurgence follows Syria’s political turmoil after Bashar al-Assad’s ouster in December 2024.

SDF commander Mazloum Abdi has repeatedly warned of ISIS’s growing threat, particularly in detention camps. The group remains active despite losing territorial control in 2019.

The incident highlights persistent security challenges in Syria’s northeast, where the SDF serves as the primary anti-ISIS partner for the US-led coalition.
