Head of Supreme Alawite Islamic Council in Syria, Diaspora calls for international protection

Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal, the head of the Supreme Alawite Islamic Council in Syria and Diaspora, has called for urgent international intervention to protect civilians amid ongoing violence, including killings, kidnappings, and mutilations, on the Syrian coast, ANHA reported.

He stressed that these atrocities affect not only the Alawite community but also broader segments of Syrian society, including Kurds, Druze, and Christians. Sheikh Ghazal urged the establishment of an independent international investigation committee and the activation of international humanitarian organizations to address the crisis. He emphasized that safeguarding human life, regardless of race, religion, or nationality, is a humanitarian duty, not a political act.

Sheikh Ghazal highlighted that thousands of civilians and soldiers remain detained with unknown fates, and members of the Alawite sect are being targeted for their livelihoods simply because they do not align with extremist ideologies. He reiterated his commitment to defending innocent women, children, and the elderly, rejecting accusations that they are remnants of the regime. This stance, he clarified, is rooted in conscience, humanity, and religious and national responsibility, rather than sectarian or political motives.
