Pakistan announces two-day public holiday in commemoration of Ashura

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Federal Government of Pakistan announced the suspension of official working hours on the eve of the tenth of Muharram, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

A government statement received by media outlets and followed by Shia Waves News Agency, stated that “the federal government decided to suspend the official working hours of all government departments throughout the country, on the ninth and tenth of the month of Muharram to commemorate the painful Ashura ceremonies.”

The statement explained that “strict security measures will be taken on the eve of the commemoration of the painful anniversary, when the Husseini ceremonies will reach their climax, and it requires full protection for the mourning processions.”

Ahlulbayt followers all over the world commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) on the tenth of Muharram, which falls on August 9, 2022.
