Pakistan’s security forces have killed two militants, including a suspected suicide bomber, during an intelligence-based operation in the northwestern district of Bannu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to official military statements.

The operation, conducted on the basis of intelligence reports, led to an exchange of fire between security personnel and armed fighters. The military said one of the slain militants was identified as Waheedullah, also known as “Mukhtiar,” who was listed among the country’s most-wanted individuals for involvement in attacks against security forces and civilians.

Authorities added that the second militant was wearing a suicide vest, which, along with weapons and ammunition, was recovered at the scene—indicating a possible imminent attack that was thwarted by the operation.

According to the military, Waheedullah had links to previous deadly incidents in the region, including a suicide attack earlier in 2026 that targeted security personnel in Bannu.

Security forces have launched follow-up clearance operations in the area to locate any remaining militant elements, as part of ongoing efforts to counter armed groups operating in the province.

The development comes amid continued security challenges in northwestern Pakistan, where militant violence has persisted despite repeated military operations targeting insurgent networks.
