Over 30 martyred, nearly 170 injured, after suicide bombing at Islamabad imambargah

A suicide bombing at the gate of an imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai area has left at least 31 martyred and 169 others injured, officials confirmed, raising fears the death toll may rise.
According to khybernews.tv, the explosion caused heavy casualties and several victims remain in critical condition. Windows of nearby homes were shattered due to the intensity of the blast.
Police, rescue teams, Rangers and army personnel rushed to the site and sealed the area. Islamabad Inspector General declared an emergency across the federal capital.
Emergency has been imposed at PIMS, Polyclinic and CDA hospitals. Staff leaves were cancelled and additional medical teams deployed. Emergency, orthopaedic, burn centre and neurology departments have been activated.
According to police sources, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) is investigating the nature of the blast to determine further details.
President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack, expressing grief over the loss of innocent lives and extending condolences to families. He termed the targeting of civilians a crime against humanity.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the blast, ordered a full investigation and directed authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas called the attack a grave security failure and expressed deep sorrow over the killing of worshippers.
