Pakistani exports of halal meat to China rising sharply
————————-
Exports of halal meat from Pakistan to China have seen dramatic growth in recent years, driven by increasing demand and strengthening trade cooperation between the two countries.
According to menafn.com, citing data published by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), Pakistan exported over $14.32 million worth of halal meat products to China between January and November 2025, a 239% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when exports amounted to $4.23 million.
This growth is attributed to improved access to the Chinese market, increased interest from Chinese buyers in high-quality processed meats, and strict adherence to sanitary and phytosanitary standards. Promotional efforts conducted through bilateral trade platforms have also played a significant role.
Industry experts, however, believe the potential remains high. They call for expanding the list of Pakistani exporters registered with the GACC, investing in the cold chain, and establishing joint processing facilities that meet both Chinese food safety standards and halal certification requirements. Strengthening digital marketing and partnerships with Chinese distribution channels is also considered essential.
Pakistan began exporting heat-treated meat to China in 2019, after obtaining approval from the GACC, but the decisive momentum was seen from 2023–2024, when exporters obtained the necessary certifications for customs clearance in China.
