Three people, including a Pakistani army officer, a soldier, and a civilian, were killed on Saturday after an avalanche hit the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan, the military said, Anadolu Agency reported. The incident occurred during a snow clearance operation aimed at reopening the strategically important Burzil Pass.

According to a military statement, heavy machinery was being used to clear snow to support troop movement in the area when the avalanche struck. The operation was led by Captain Asmad Gulfam and was suspended after he, another soldier, and a civilian machine operator were trapped under the snow. All three later died from their injuries, the statement said.
